Soul Speak - Connection Without Words

The things we don’t say sometimes resonate more than the things we do.

Looking back, I can think of a variety of situations where saying nothing would have been the more empathetic and effective route.

We all over communicate at times, we want to be heard. It’s part of being human.

But the best leaders I’ve ever met have a way of making their words count by saying less. They have a style and substance around how they communicate. It’s in the nuances. It’s never the same. Every situation is different.

Seizing opportunity to allow another person to shine. Or keeping it to bare minimum. The most impactful words come in spades. They’re context driven. Delivered at the right time. When it matters most.

Like a west coast sunset sometimes the greatest beauty lies in saying nothing. Let the environment speak for itself. We’re here right now. It’s perfect. We all know this is the moment we’ve been waiting for.

Tomorrows going to come and we might have a lot to say then. Let’s take a moment to reflect on how this is all unfolding. Radiant lighting. Stark contrast. Colors shifting and bending. Reflecting through the process of immersion. Immersion in the setting. Immersion from the feeling. Immersed with one another. What an experience.

Even with silence, we don’t forget the words. The words we read when we landed on the page. The new chapter. The new way of looking at things. The new way of thinking. The new way that the world is working to create a better experience for all of us.

I sat alone in front of a sunset back in 2020 and felt like there was no one but me. No one but me and the bugs under my skin, the pain in my bones, the pounding in my head. But it wasn’t just me. There were a lot of people right there with me. They saved my life that day.

It had nothing and everything to do with words.

The thing they said when I needed it most. The thing they didn’t say when they were right and I was wrong. When I took the risk and it didn’t go my way. When they could have said I told you so and instead told me they cared by saying nothing at all. That was a strong message.

Or when the thing I created made them smile. I didn’t say anything I just sent the memo. Here’s the new design. I made it for you. You made it with me. Your words helped me make it. Now we’re making something new.

And what’s new is beautiful because it can be experienced 1000x over. It can be improved. Reiterated upon. Carved into something else entirely. But that new thing wouldn’t have existed if it wasn’t for the thing we created in the first place.

So why give up when we can just create the world over again. Move to a new city. Move to a new country. Move to a new home. Create a new home. A home for you and me.

Or come back to the old one and see it through a new set of eyes. See how the evening light shines over the portrait in a way that it didn’t before. How the people light up at max brightness. When the sky is blue. When the colors are magnified.

We design the world so the world can design us. Immaculate design. Design thinking exists in every single thought; we just aren’t always aware of the confluences. We aren’t always aware from where we are pulling our inspiration.

But as someone who has traveled far; I believe no idea is by accident. It was drawn from the people and places before it.

Now I’m building a portfolio inspired by those people and places.

The people I learned from. The people I never met. The people who’s stories I hope to someday hear. The people I crossed paths with and saw a piece of myself inside of them.

Here’s the piece of me you helped create.

We created this together.

I want you to know that you saved my life too.
